The latest in my kit of lenses is the Nikon AF-S 10-24mm f/3.5-5.6G DX ED.
As I said in some other post, I guess I can be a bit of a snob, wanting all Nikon lenses for my Nikon cameras, and now I have that (the Tamron 70-300mm was the last one to go).
So, what about this particular lens?
It looks excellent on the D7200, it focuses fast, and it is sharp. I have no way of measuring the sharpness or the speed, but that’s my estimate, at least.
The front filter is 77mm, so my filters fit, which was a deciding factor in getting this lens.
It is, like so many other lenses and cameras, made mainly out of plastic, but it does have a metal lens mount with a rubber ring gasket. It feels like good quality.
I had a 8mm fish-eye for a while, and it produced a 180 degree view, which was pretty cool. But that is a bit too extreme, and it was a manual focus lens, so I sold it (at a bit of a profit). This lens is not that much longer, by only 2mm, and it gives me just about as much of an angle, but with all the benefits of autofocus and the zoom range. So I think this will suit me better.
It’s listed for almost 13000 SEK right now, directly from Nikon. I got it for around 2000 SEK, which is obviously much more reasonable. It was as in new condition, even in the box, with both caps and lens hood.
My goal was really to get the 10-20mm, mainly because it has VR, but I couldn’t find one at a decent price. And at the extreme wide angle, VR is less of an issue than at longer focal lengths. I’m sure I’ll miss VR though, at some point.
As always, let me get back to you once I’ve used it for a while.
