This lens is a masterpiece. AF-S DX Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF ED VR. Quite a mouthful.
This is a superb lens, especially considering the long focal span. This is now the lens that sits most often on my D5500.
I bought it used. It cost a bit too much really, but it also meant I could sell a few lenses, including a 55-200mm VR.
Any downside? Well, it’s a rather big and heavy lens. It doesn’t balance that well on the small and light D5500. It doesn’t bother me a lot, and there is a certain sense of seriousness and quality in the weight. But if low weight and small size are important to you, there are other lenses that fit better, like the AF-P 18-55mm VR.
Maybe it’s my lens, but typically when I set VR to Active it sounds a bit like the lens would break. Not always, but sometimes. But nothing seems broken, and VR really helps. Nikon claims four steps, which sounds reasonable.
Chances are pretty good that many photographers would do just fine with only the 18-200 in their kit.
There is a mark II of this lens, but Ken Rockwell seems to say that they are virtually the same lens.
