This is discussed and asked a lot, does gear matter? Does it matter which camera you use to take your photos with, what lens, what accessories?
Of course, there is no simple answer to this question, but the common view seems to be that it does not matter. I think Craig Roberts has a good take on this, take a few minutes to listen to him.
In and of itself, new gear does not make you a better photographer. But! New gear can make it easier, or even possible, for you to take a certain kind of photos, or better photos.
I’m thinking of vibration reduction that makes it possible to shoot sharper photos in low light, a telephoto lens with better reach, a faster shutter speed to capture something fast, etc.
Those things give you options and possibilities, but they do not make you a better photographer.
I’ve said it before, some of my favorite photos I’ve taken with the plastic Holga. There, the lack of features and technology contributes, I think.
But it is also something deeply human, I think, to have something “better” (which often means more expensive), and to have what we see others have (and thinking their photos are so good because of their gear).
That I got a Nikon D800e recently does not make me a better photographer. But its high resolution and sharpness can be things that make me take better photographs.
As many have said before me, the camera is just a tool.
