A favorite photographer: Michael Kenna

Posted on 2024-07-282024-07-28 by Magnus

Michael Kenna is best known for his abstract and minimalist landscapes in black and white. Me likes!

Michael Kenna is a British photographer renowned for his exquisite black and white landscapes. His style is characterized by long exposures, often taken at dawn or night, which create ethereal, almost mystical images. Kenna’s photographs often feature stark contrasts between light and dark, and his compositions are frequently minimalist and evocative. He is particularly known for his images of industrial landscapes, seascapes, and natural forms, all rendered with a quiet beauty and sense of timeless mystery.

I am very drawn to his work. It seems simple at times, but deceptively simple. Apparently, he uses Hasselblad and Holga, which means he favors analog film. “I work with silver materials, film cameras and do all my own darkroom printing. I do not use the digital medium,” he says in an interview.

I find great inspiration in Kenna’s work. It speaks to me, hits me deep inside.
