A Nikon DX camera is still a good option for an affordable camera that can deliver great photos. I should know, I have several of them. But when it comes to lenses the options are limited, at least when it comes to new ones.
Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of both DX cameras and lenses on the used market. But when it comes to new items, there isn’t much to chose from.
Is that a problem?
Not necessarily. But, basically, if you have a Dxx, Dxxx or Dxxxx the options are limited when it comes to new items, especially lenses.
Take a look at the selection at Cyberphoto, one of the leading online retailers of photo gear in Sweden. That link shows you lenses for Nikon F, APS-C. Currently 15 lenses.
Sigma Nordic, as another example, lists four lenses for Nikon F APS-C.
Don’t get me wrong, that’s not bad, but it is something to consider if you venture into DX land.
I have two lenses on the Cyberphoto list (35mm f/1.8 and 40mm f/2.8) and there are a few more I’d love to have (primarily the 10-20mm), but I don’t see myself buying anything new anytime soon.
What do you think? Is it an issue for you?
