This is a short telephoto lens on DX cameras. AF-S DX Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G is a wonderful little lens, sibling to 35 mm f/1.8G.
On a DX-camera the focal length is 75mm, in other words short telephoto, suitable for portraits.
This is my wife’s favorite lens, but I borrow it from time to time.
It’s sharp, colors look great, bokeh is okay, and it focuses fast.
Any downsides? There is no VR, and I sometimes have a hard time choosing between it and the 35 mm.
It’s perhaps not a lens you keep on the camera all the time, but it is a great lens.
Just look at my excellent sample photo. Focus is on the corner of the piece of wood, and see how fast the background gets blurry.
