Nikon 28mm f/1.8G

Posted on 2024-07-27 by Magnus

I traded some lenses and got this one instead, and I’m pleased with that.

It’s an FX lens, but on DX it’s the equivalent of 42mm, so a normal focal length. It will work well on both my D7200 and the D800e. I’ve always been attracted, like so many others, to the normal lens, and for every camera I’ve ever had I’ve bought the equivalent lens.

The 28mm has Nikon’s Nano Crystal Coating, which (supposedly) “drastically reduces ghost and flare”. What difference it makes, if any, I don’t know. But I do know photos with this lens look sharp and just great. At the very least, it gives you that “N” on the lens.

It also has the golden ring, which is supposed to mean high-quality lenses, and it feels nice to have that.

Previously I’ve been more attracted to 35mm than 24mm or 28mm, but I look forward to using this lens. It’s certainly big for being a 28mm lens, but it’s not that heavy, so I figure the size will not be an issue.
