Nikon Z 40mm f/2 SE

Posted on 2024-12-222024-12-22 by Magnus

This is the first Z lens for me. It was affordable and I’ve always had a 50mm lens for my cameras.

True, this is not 50mm, but right between 35mm and 50mm, so it’ll fit nicely in my kit, I think.

It’s the SE model (special edition), meant to look like old lenses, which it sort of does.

It is small and light (170g) probably due to it being made out of plastic. But it feels solid and tough. Focusing speed is not fantastic, but perfectly respectable. It does focus almost without any sound, which is nice, especially for video.

Maybe it’s not a pancake lens, but I’ve seen it called a muffin, so pastry-ish, at least.

Sharpness is very good. I doubt I’ll ever complain about lacking sharpness.

All in all, a very nice little lens. It will be a good addition to my kit.
