Nikon AF 50mm f/1.8D

Posted on 2024-09-042024-09-07 by Magnus

I’ve had various models of Nikon 50mm lenses (including, currently, the AF-S 50mm f/1.4G), but not the D-version, until now.

What’s there to say about it, that’s not been said already? Not much, really.

It’s sharp, focuses reasonably fast, is small and light (155 g) so it can go with you anywhere (although not exactly pancake-small). But it is pretty loud while focusing, at least compared to my other lenses.

I got it primarily to use on my Nikon F55, as a good all-around lens, which can produce nice shallow depth of field. The fast f/1.8 is also good to have when you’re shooting film.

Together, the F55 and the 50mm D is around 0.5kg!

Amazingly, Nikon still sells this lens new.
