Convert Manfrotto ball head to take Arca Swiss plates

Posted on 2024-08-012024-08-01 by Magnus

I have a great Manfrotto tripod with an also great ball head, with a Manfrotto quick release function. Getting an l-plate, which is in effect an Arca Swiss plate, I wanted to exchange the Manfrotto plate for an Arca Swiss one.

Here’s what the Manfrotto plate looks like.

To do that I got an Arca Swiss plate (on the right below) and the screw and converter (on the left), both from Amazon.

I took out the screw that was in the new plate.

I unscrewed the Manfrotto plate (first picture in this post), and attached the converter to the now “naked” ball head (below).

Then I inserted the screw in the Arca Swiss plate and tightened it properly (below).

Then I was done, and below you can see my new l-plate attached.

I also added another plate to my monopod, but for that I did not add the converter and screw.

Have you done something similar?
