I came across this challenge, which has been done in various forms by various people. The basic idea is to shoot for one year with just one camera and one lens.
That’s not going to work for me because I photograph some for work, and then I use the gear provided by my employer. But I figured I can tweak it so that I publish at least once a day, at least one photo at a time, for the entire year.
The intent is to shoot at least one photo per day, which probably won’t be possible all the time, but to at least publish one per day. So, there will be days when I shoot more than one photo, and others when I don’t shoot any. The idea is that I take a camera with me as much as possible, and shoot my everyday life.
My first thought was to pick analog and shoot film. And analog cameras and lenses are pretty cheap, which is good (and I love my F5). But with film, developing and scanning not being cheap, this is going to leave a mark in the bank account, and the volatility of having to worry about the cost is not good for my state of mind.
So my selection for the challenge is Nikon Z5 with Nikon Z 40mm f/2 SE.
I plan to primarily transfer files to my iPone or iPad using SnapBridge, edit them and publish from there. This is to simplify the workflow by not depending on a computer.
And here are my rules (set by myself):
- Only photos shot with that camera and lens will be considered.
- I post at least one photograph per day to the site, BlueSky, Facebook and Instagram.
- The photos don’t have to be taken the same day they are posted.
- At the end of each month, I do a post here highlighting some photos from the past month.
I did something similar to this many years ago, which grew into a blog, which is now gone. Back then, it inspired my photography and got me interested and active again after many years of inaction. I hope that this time I’ll achieve something similar.
